The Cryotherapy Difference

As a family that breeds, trains and competes on horses we know what it's like to try to find every edge you can to bring out the best in our equine partners. Rodeo Equine Therapy uses pressurized Co2 to treat numerous regions of the horse’s body, including muscles and joints for effective maintenance and injury prevention. Vets, trainers and physiotherapists report rapid pain relief and overall faster recovery from equine injuries through targeted cold therapy.

Benefits of Cryotherapy

Equine cryotherapy is a non-invasive and safe method of treating acute injuries. Some of the ways that cryotherapy benefits horses are:

  • Helping to reduce swelling, inflammation, pain, and muscle spasms. This is due to the low temperatures constricting blood flow.
  • The low cellular metabolism that occurs with the drop in temperature helps to prevent tissue death which in turn reduces pain and lowers the risk of re-injury.
  • The colder temperatures  help stimulate your horse's nervous system which will help the heart return to a resting heart rate quicker.

The use of equine cryotherapy will ultimately help your horse recover quicker and with a reduced risk of injury compared to when it's not used

How it Works

Our portable cryotherapy device works by sending a steady stream of carbon dioxide (CO2) gas at a temperature of -108°F (-78°C) to the intended treatment area. Within 30 seconds, the surface temperature of the horse’s skin is reduced to 39°F (4°C). It offers a lot more precision than the ice chambers, as it’s able to target even small areas. This intense cooling creates a thermic shock and initiates four physiological processes in the horse, which ultimately relieve pain, decrease inflammation and swelling and increase recovery.
